The term “bulking” gets thrown around a lot these days. When someone says they’re bulking, they mean they’re eating an excess of calories to achieve rapid weight gain in hopes that some will be muscle. I’ve even fallen victim to this mindset in my early years of training. The problem is that the bulk of your new bulk is fat. I now call it “fattening” because essentially that’s all you’re doing. You are just making life harder on yourself for when it’s time to lean out. You’ll most likely have to go to extreme measures creating a larger calorie deficit and tons of cardio to trim up that bulk. All the while losing hard earned muscle due to having to lose all that fat.
Keep this in mind next time you’re tempted to “bulk” and make an excuse to eat junk food to get extra calories. Clean calories give you clean gains, so eat right, train hard and most of all, be patient. You body is a long term investment, not a penny stock with large swings up and down.
